A network administrator is a professional responsible for managing, configuring and maintaining an organisation’s network infrastructure. His role is to ensure that communication systems (local networks, wide area networks, Internet) operate smoothly and securely.
His main responsibilities include :
- Configuration and installation: Setting up network equipment (routers, switches, access points) and configuring needed parameters to ensure an efficient connection;
- Performance management: Network monitoring to detect and resolve performance problems, to ensure optimum utilisation;
- Security: Implementing security measures to protect the network against threats and intrusions, and managing access to network resources;
- Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving network faults or malfunctions to minimise service interruptions;
- Documentation: Designing and maintaining technical documentation on network configuration, troubleshooting procedures and security policies;
- Updates : Applying necessary updates and patches to maintain the security and performance of network equipment and software.
