Contract Signing for the Upgrade of the National PKI Solution and Passport.

Voici la traduction en anglais du texte : The Gabonese delegation, led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, signed an agreement with Thales to ensure a secure upgrade of PKI solutions, thereby guaranteeing the reliable production of passports and electronic national identity cards. This initiative, orchestrated by ANINF, marks a crucial milestone in strengthening Gabon’s digital identity systems, while respecting national sovereignty. The Government of the Gabonese Republic mandated the competent services of the Ministry of the Interior and the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies (ANINF) in Meudon, France, to create the conditions for a signing that respects the sovereignty of the Gabonese Republic. The contract pertains to the update of the PKI solution provided by the global leader in digital identity systems, Thales Group Dis France. The Gabonese delegation was led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Dr. Malcom Emery DJENNO NGOMANDA. Following intense negotiations, ANINF’s Director General, Alberto Wenceslas MOUGUENGUI MOUDOKI, signed the contract on March 1, 2024, ensuring the upgrade of PKI solutions that will enable the secure issuance of passports and electronic national identity cards (CNIE). The signing of this contract between the Director General of ANINF and Mr. Alain YANA, Sales Manager for Central and West Africa at THALES, duly mandated by the Group’s Vice President who was unable to attend, represents a crucial step in the CNIE production process. Indeed, within the framework of the CNIE, the essential function of the PKI is to produce the certificates embedded in the chip of the National Identity Card, which carries the digital identity of each citizen who holds it. In other words, the PKI ensures maximum security for the information contained in the chip of the National Identity Card, through encryption and authentication via an electronic certificate signing system. The PKI is therefore the essential security system for protecting the identity of a natural or legal person in cyberspace. As a reminder, the signing of this contract was suspended in November 2023 by Director General Alberto Wenceslas MOUNGUENGUI MOUDOKI, with the aim of achieving a version that ensures respect for the country’s sovereignty.
