The establishment of the Gabonese Internet Exchange areas (GAB-IX) is essential to strengthening Gabon’s digital sovereignty and technological autonomy.
Since its inauguration on December 2nd 2014, GAB-IX, structured as an Economic Interest Group (EIG), has significantly reduced Internet costs, making digital access more affordable for citizens. It also improves connections quality, promoting a better user experience and stimulating economic and social development.
By promoting local digital content hosting and creation, GAB-IX supports the national digital economy. By reducing latency and exchanging traffic locally, it saves on international transit costs and optimises bandwidth management. In this way, GAB-IX is playing a key role in building a robust and autonomous digital ecosystem, positioning Gabon as a regional leader in Internet connectivity and infrastructure management.
